Anderson joins England as bowling mentor post retirement

Former right-arm seamer James Anderson, who retired from international cricket following the first Test against the West Indies at Lord’s, has joined the England squad as bowling coach for the final two Tests.

The second Test between England and the West Indies will begin Thursday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

Anderson will take on a new role in the series beginning with the second match, mentoring the English bowling lineup for the remaining two matches.

On Friday, the fast bowler retired from Test cricket as the third-highest wicket-taker in the sport’s history.

The 41-year-old grabbed four wickets in the Test match, bringing his total to 704 for his career, third only behind Muttiah Muralidaran and the late Shane Warne.

The hosts defeated the Caribbeans by an innings and 114 runs in the Test match. Some of the sport’s legends, both past and present, turned to social media to recognize Anderson’s contributions to cricket for more than two decades.

In the first Test between England and the West Indies, Anderson got the first wicket of the day at Lord’s, dismissing Joshua Da Silva and effectively ended the West Indies’ resistance.
