Austin Reaves #15 of the Los Angeles Lakers takes a shot against Malik Monk #0 of the Sacramento Kings in the second half at Crypto.com Arena on March 06, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

The Lakers are reportedly unlikely to pursue Gary Trent Jr.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most talked-about teams in the NBA this offseason.

Not only did the Lakers lose sooner than expected in the playoffs, but they have also made substantial organizational adjustments.

They sacked Darvin Ham and replaced him with J.J. Redick to lead the team forward.

The Lakers also selected two outstanding players in this year’s draft: Dalton Knecht and Bronny James.

While these two players have the potential to do a lot of damage together, especially when they play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, there is always room for improvement on the squad.

There have been speculations that the Lakers have expressed interest in some key veterans, notably Gary Trent Jr., but it appears that, at least in Trent’s case, they will not proceed.

According to Marc Stein of NBA Central, “One insider close to the process cautioned this week that the Lakers can’t even make a run at Trent. “Regardless of how available he appears to be.”

The Lakers are unlikely to pursue Gary Trent Jr. at this time, according to @TheSteinLine.

The Lakers, like many other clubs in the NBA, are facing a difficult situation due to the luxury tax.

They don’t want to dip into it if they can help it, and with guys like James and Davis on the roster, they don’t want to put too many eggs in other baskets.

The Lakers will most certainly need to sign a couple more players this offseason, but they will have to be creative with their deals.
