LeBron James’ presence on the Los Angeles Lakers undoubtedly affected the team’s decision to choose Bronny James. But Bronny still seems to be in denial about it.
On Tuesday, the Lakers conducted an introduction news conference for rookies Bronny James and Dalton Knecht.
The younger James was asked about his choice to leave USC early after a disappointing rookie season. The reporter also enquired about how much LeBron’s position as an active player influenced Bronny’s decision to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft.

The 55th overall choice attempted to downplay the father-son connection by making a questionable assertion.
“For me, I always try to put that narrative [aside],” says Bronny. “I’m trying to promote myself. I’ve never considered going to play with my father. It’s always there. But it was not a primary emphasis of mine.
Several fans on X were skeptical of Bronny’s claim that he had never considered playing with LeBron. After all, LeBron has been extremely open about the possibility of joining up with his eldest kid in the NBA.

To be fair to Bronny, he probably couldn’t have provided an answer that would have satisfied everyone. The 19-year-old also appeared anxious in front of a large group of media members.

Given his position as LeBron’s kid, Bronny’s rookie season will be one of the most closely watched in recent years. More challenging questions are expected to arise as the season progresses.
