Sunday, June 23, 2024. Don Sweeney, General Manager of the Boston Bruins, announced the signing of defenseman Ian Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000 through the 24-25 season.

Mitchell is a depth defenceman for the Bruins, having played 13 games in the 23-24 season with two points, a plus-six rating, and ten penalty minutes. Mitchell has played 95 NHL games over the course of four seasons, scoring 4 goals, 14 assists, and 18 points with a minus-15 rating. Mitchell spent the majority of the 23-24 season in Providence, where he appeared in 42 games and scored six goals and 18 assists for a total of 24 points and a plus-10 rating.

The St. Albert, Alberta native was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft with the 57th overall pick after three years at the University of Denver. On June 26, 2023, the Bruins acquired the 25-year-old right-shot defenceman from Alec Regula in exchange for Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno.
