Angel Reese

Chicago Sky Forward Angel Reese and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark have one of the most natural rivalries we’ve seen in sports in quite a while. In fact, it’s difficult to imagine a more intense rivalry in American sports today.

However, the two could end up playing as teammates in the WNBA All-Star Game next month, which would shock many internet haters.

The WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled for July 20, with this year’s version pitting the WNBA All-Stars against Team USA. Neither player will be representing Team USA in Paris this summer, but both will almost surely attend the All-Star Game in Phoenix. Check out the current vote standings.

The discussion about them being on the same squad would be heated, since it appears that the entire internet has taken sides in the battle.

The rivalry between the two dates back to the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship Game, when Reese and LSU defeated Clark and Iowa in what was then the most-watched women’s collegiate basketball game ever. Reese ridiculed Caitlin Clark near the end of the game, igniting a commotion.

The two met again in college in the Elite Eight this year, and Clark and the Hawkeyes defeated Angel Reese, progressing to the Final Four.

It has also crossed over into the WNBA. The two have met twice since Clark was chosen first overall and Reese was selected seventh overall. The Fever have won both meetings, which have had contentious events between the two.

In the first match, Sky guard Chennedy Carter gave Clark a cheap shot, and Angel Reese was seen cheering him on. Then, in the second game, Reese was punished for a flagrant foul after she attempted a block but instead hit Clark’s head. Both players agreed that it was a basketball game and an accident.

For what it’s worth, both players have consistently said that they have no ill will towards one another. Perhaps seeing them on the same team will help people believe them.

On Sunday afternoon, the two will play their third WNBA game.
