An exciting team to follow in the lead-up to the MLB trade deadline is the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies will probably be active because they have a few needs that might be addressed.

Considering how near to a World Series they seem to be, being aggressive makes perfect sense. Philadelphia currently has a 44-19 record, tied with the New York Yankees for the greatest record in baseball.

It’s common to see a club that is so good close to the deadline swing for the fences in an attempt to increase their chances of winning the championship. The Phillies might not try to complete a blockbuster trade, but they might make a few sizable acquisitions to strengthen their club.

According to Inside the Red Sox’s Scott Neville, Philadelphia might try to acquire outfielder Tyler O’Neill from the Boston Red Sox through trade.

As one of the few impact outfielders believed to be available this summer, Tyler O’Neill is one of the more well-known players likely to be shipped off. According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies will be active in that market, making them the ideal destination for the 28-year-old.”

At first, Jeff Passan of ESPN MLB Insiders said that the Phillies will go “all over the outfield market.” This has given rise to conjecture on the players the team would try to acquire in a trade. It would all make great sense to pursue O’Neill.

O’Neill has participated in 42 games for Boston this season. His batting average is.243, and he has hit 11 home runs and driven in 18 runs.

Although those aren’t particularly impressive stats, he would make sense for Philadelphia as a depth piece. If asked to play, he could at the very least make an effect. If the Phillies can keep their starting outfield healthy and ramp their productivity, they should be able to use him as a bench player.

To be honest, the trade market doesn’t have many excellent outfielders. Michael Conforto of the San Francisco Giants, an outfielder who is probably available, is another name to keep an eye on.

Luis Robert, an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox, is another option; he is reportedly available for the appropriate price.

It appears highly likely that the Phillies will make at least one outfielder deal, regardless of the path they decide to take. Though he wouldn’t have nearly as much upside as Robert, O’Neill would be less expensive.

Having said that, the trade deadline is still running. Near future, Philadelphia will need to decide on their course of action. It’s really important to keep an eye on any trade with the Red Sox.
