Heat’s Jimmy Butler makes comments at Sparks game that will pique Lakers fans’ interest.

Is Jimmy trolling again?

Jimmy Butler, a Miami Heat player, is known for his trollish behaviour. Whether it’s showing up to picture day with a strange haircut or making fun of rival teams on the sidelines or on social media, ‘Jimmy Buckets’ enjoys playing about and getting people worked up. So when the Miami Heat player showed up for today’s WNBA game between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Dallas Wings, we should have expected him to do something.

Butler was interviewed courtside during the game and asked what he thought of Sparks rookies Rickea Jackson and Cameron Brink. Butler, never one to waste an opportunity, offered a comment that could be interpreted in a variety of ways.

“For some reason, 22 looks good in purple and gold,” Butler remarked with a chuckle, referring to Brink’s Sparks number, his own jersey number, and perhaps the Lakers.

While Jimmy Butler was most likely just trolling at the Sparks game, there have been claims and rumours that Butler’s relationship with the Miami Heat isn’t as strong as it once was. After the Heat were ousted in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Boston Celtics, Butler, who missed the series due to injury, stated that Miami would have upset the Celtics if he had played.

“If I was playing, Boston would be at home, and New York would be f—ing at home,” Butler stated in an internet video.

Butler’s comments irritated Pat Riley, the famed executive and former coach. The Heat’s

“That’s a big decision on our part to commit those kinds of resources unless you have somebody who’s going to be there and available every single night,” Riley stated. “That is the truth.”

“We’ve got a really good group of guys and the No. 1 issue is player availability and having your guys healthy to play every night,” Riley stated. “And we have to wrap our arms around that notion.”

It’s unclear whether Butler and Riley’s statements mean anything about their working relationship. Butler will make $48.8 million next season and has a $52.4 million option in 2025. However, Jimmy Butler will not wear No. 22 with the Los Angeles Lakers.
