Yankees Could Target Underrated Hurler To Bolster Bullpen In Deadline Deal

The New York Yankees have all of the makings of a legitimate World Series contender, but that doesn’t mean they won’t get some help this summer.

New York is currently one of baseball’s finest teams, but they will most certainly want to add more bullpen depth down the stretch before the 2024 Major League Baseball trade deadline.

The Yankees have already been connected to a number of high-profile players, but they do not need to make a major trade to compete. New York could use some more depth at a reasonable expense.

Austin Adams, a reliever for the Oakland Athletics, fits this criteria and would be a good fit for the Yankees.

Adams has performed admirably for the Athletics this season, and Jim Bowden of The Athletic believes he is a likely trade possibility.

“Most likely traded: (Designated hitter) Brent Rooker, (right-handed pitcher) Lucas Erceg, (right-handed pitcher) Paul Blackburn, (right-handed pitcher) Austin Adams,” Bowden stated.

Bowden looked at each Major League Baseball organization and projected what they would do around the deadline. Oakland is inclined to sell, and he identified Adams as a trade candidate.

In 20 innings worked this season, the 33-year-old has a 2.70 ERA with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 28 to 11. He is the type of guy New York may bring in to bolster an already strong bullpen before the deadline.

New York is certain to be linked to a few of pitchers, and Adams might play a significant role.
