Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and Liyana Durisic

Irving, Texas – The Big 12 announced on Friday that two Iowa State women’s golfers have earned All-Big 12 honours. Senior Liyana Durisic received the honour for the first time, while sophomore Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn was named to the team for the second consecutive year. It is the ninth time in programme history that multiple players have been nominated to an all-conference team during the same season.

The duo shared the Big 12 Championship title, marking the first time in Big 12 history that two teammates finished first and only the fourth time in league history that a team had the top two finishers in the rankings. Iowa State, UCF, and Texas were the only schools with multiple players on the 11-member All-Big 12 Team.

Chul-Ak-Sorn is just the eighth player in programme history to receive multiple all-conference honours, and the fifth since joining the Big 12 Conference. She is Iowa State’s first player to earn multiple All-Big 12 honours since Celia Barquin Arozamena and Chayanit Wangmahaporn in 2018. Chul-Ak-Sorn averaged 71.85 strokes over 33 rounds this season, the second-lowest in school history after her 70.56 last season. Her 71.24 career average is the best in the program’s history. In addition to her Big 12 win, she was tied for seventh at the Mountainview Intercollegiate.

Durisic’s average of 72.64 in 33 rounds this season was the second-best of her career, after only her 72.26 from the previous season. Her 72.64 is the fifth-best average in programme history, and she graduates with a career stroke average of 72.78, second only to Chul-Ak-Sorn. Her two career victories (2021 Wolverine Invite) tie for the second-most in programme history, as do her 143 career rounds played, trailing only former teammate Taglao Jeeravivitaporn’s 152. During her final season, she had three consecutive top-five finishes before finishing 12th at the NCAA Bryan Regional.
