Kyogo Furuhashi is at the focus of some startling transfer rumours this summer.

Despite a fantastic three-year stint at Celtic, where he scored 73 goals and assisted 15 times, whispers have circulated regarding a return to Japan.

According to journalist Marco Molla, Urawa Red Diamonds is interested in signing Furuhashi.

The J-League team has apparently maintained a positive relationship with Celtic since their January 2023 negotiations for Giakoumakis.

Furuhashi, who signed a new deal last season that extended his tenure at Celtic until the summer of 2027, has played an important role in Celtic’s offence under both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers.

His domestic performance has been outstanding, and he has also demonstrated his ability to score goals in the Champions League.

At 29, a return to Japan would be surprising, especially given Kyogo’s earlier expressed desire to play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, specifically the Bundesliga.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Urawa Red Diamonds’ interest will translate into a formal offer and how Celtic will respond.
