Blue Jays Rain Down 7 Runs, Hand White Sox a 7th Straight LossThe Chicago White Sox pitching staff allowed 13 hits and eight walks on Tuesday, ending in their seventh consecutive loss. Jake Woodford debuted for the White Sox in favour of planned starter Mike Clevinger, who was a late scratch against the Toronto Blue Jays.

“Anytime you give up eight free passes and 13 hits, you’re going to have a tough night,” Chicago manager Pedro Grifol said.

The Blue Jays took the lead shortly after the game was delayed for 40 minutes by rain in the Chicagoland region. In the second inning, the Blue Jays scored all of their runs to win the game on Tuesday night.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s double led to George Springer’s single. Kevin Keirmaier’s walk paved the way for Davis Schneider’s double, which brought home both runners.

“The second inning got away from me a little bit,” Woodford admitted. “It comes down to execution. They didn’t notice when I didn’t complete a handful of slides. I felt like I could relax back in after that and get us through a couple more innings.”

The White Sox starter gave up three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of work.

In the sixth inning, Schneider scored Springer on a sacrifice fly. In the eighth inning, the Blue Jays scored three runs off lefty Tim Hill on back-to-back doubles by Bo Bichette and Justin Turner. Hill surrendered six base hits in the inning.

A Futile Enterprise
Nicky Lopez opened the scoring for the Pale Hose with a third-inning RBI double, and Andrew Vaughn drove in Zach Remillard for the White Sox’s second run in the 7-2 setback. The White Sox have scored four runs over the last three games.

Kevin Gausman, the Blue Jays’ starter, allowed one run in six innings on four hits and one walk.

“Not great,” Gausman replied. “The box score won’t impress you. But I thought we did a fantastic job of pitching and making pitches in the key areas, so that’s what I was excited about.”
