Aston Villa are plotting a ‘assault’ on Lazio’s Mattéo Guendouzi during the summer transfer window.

According to Wednesday’s issue of Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year-old has decided to go, and his departure ‘may unlock the market’ for the Serie A club.

According to reports, the Biancocelesti have placed a €30 million price tag for the midfielder, and Aston Villa ‘would be willing to offer’ that amount for him.

Unai Emery is well acquainted with Guendouzi, having signed him for Arsenal in 2018.

Last October, the France international had admitted he headed to the London club because of Emery. According to Corriere, the Spaniard is ‘pushing’ to get him to Villa Park.

Guendouzi joined the Italian club from Marseille on a loan with a buyout clause last summer and has enjoyed a promising start to his Lazio career. His status changed once Igor Tudor was named Maurizio Sarri’s replacement in March.
Although the player has 581 minutes in nine games under the current coach, the publication reports conflict between the two, and Tudor does not want to rely on the Frenchman next season.

As a result, Guendouzi will move in the next window, as long as Lazio’s required sum [approximately €30 million] arrives.

Corriere’s summary claims Aston Villa ‘would be ready’ to offer this money, however this is not supported by the story.
