David Perron

The Toronto Maple Leafs are associated with forward David Perron.

According to NHL source David Pagnotta, the Toronto Maple Leafs are anticipated to pursue Detroit Red Wings winger David Perron in free agency.

Perron signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Red Wings, which terminated at the end of the season. With the 35-year-old due to become a free agency on July 1, Pagnotta believes the Maple Leafs will show interest in signing the winger.

“One veteran forward the Maple Leafs may try to add this summer: David Perron,” Pagnotta said on his website, TheFourthPeriod.

However, when Detroit failed to make the playoffs, Perron stated that he hopes to re-sign with the Red Wings this offseason.

“There’s no reason to worry about anything else right now. “I hope it works out,” Perron told TheHockeyNews.

Perron has been in the NHL since the 2007–08 season, when he was selected 27th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2007 NHL draft.

Perron played 76 games for Detroit this season, scoring 17 goals and 30 assists for a total of 47 points. The 35-year-old played an important role on the Blues’ Stanley Cup-winning club in 2019.

DailyFaceoff.com predicts Perron will get a two-year contract for $3 million each season this summer.

The Maple Leafs’ front office will consider everything.
Following Toronto’s first-round elimination by the Boston Bruins, the Maple Leafs executive management has stated that all options for prospective transactions are on the table.

Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan says the team would evaluate all trade and free agency possibilities this offseason.

“We conduct an analysis at the end of each season; we look at our team, look ahead, and seek for ways to improve. We do this every year. “In the past, I believe there are times when you should talk about patience, and I still believe there are times when patience is the appropriate call,” Shanahan stated at a press conference on May 10.

“However, when you notice patterns persist and the consequences do not change, you must modify your perspective on things. We shall look at and examine everything this summer. “All with the goal of making the Maple Leafs better and winning,” Shanahan explained.

Mitch Marner and Maple Leafs captain John Tavares have both been linked to a possible deal.

Who are the Maple Leafs’ pending free agents?
Toronto starts the offseason with ten pending unrestricted free agents and four restricted free agents.

The Maple Leafs’ biggest pending free agents are forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi. Both inked one-year deals with Toronto last summer and scored 43 and 47 points, respectively.

Toronto will also need to address its goaltender situation this summer, as Ilya Samsonov and Martin Jones are both upcoming free agents. However, Joseph Woll is under contract with the NHL until the 2024-25 season.

The complete list of Maple Leafs free agents is as follows:

Tyler Bertuzzi (LW, UFA), Max Domi (C), Connor Dewar (LW, RFA), and Noah Gregor (RW, RFA).
The roster includes Nicholas Robertson (C), TJ Brodie (D), Joel Edmundson (D), Mark Giordano (D), Ilya Lybushkin (D), Timothy Liljegren (D), Ilya Samsonov (G), and Martin Jones (G).
