Brad Marchand, 63, a left wing for the Boston Bruins, warms up before the team plays the Nashville Predators in the NHL on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Boston — Brad Marchand expressed his desire that he and the Bruins would start working on a contract extension before to leaving for the vacation.

The eight-year contract with an annual cap hit of $6,125,000 that the 36-year-old captain of the Bruins signed prior to the 2017–18 campaign is still in effect.

Of course, I’m amazed at how quickly it arrived. During the team’s final media availability of the season on Sunday, Marchand stated, “It will definitely be a conversation at some point.” We’ll proceed accordingly. I would love to stay here when the time comes because I have spent my entire career here.

Although free agency is less than a month away, Boston general manager Don Sweeney was optimistic that a deal would be reached because the player already has a contract for 2024–2025. Therefore, there was less urgency in negotiating with him.

Yes, we will definitely reach Brad. As a captain, he is also developing his patience. In order to add to our group and how he wants to add to it, he must first understand that there are some ducks in a row, including those players who do not yet have contracts, Sweeney stated on Wednesday. He will eventually extend here. We ought to accept the fact that he will always be a Bruin. However, we will check that box.

For restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman, Sweeney must negotiate a long-term contract. It’s also likely that Linus Ullmark will be involved in a deal. From his current squad, Sweeney has seven unrestricted free agents to choose from. During the July 1st free agency period, Sweeney and Boston are anticipated to be actively seeking assistance, particularly in the offensive department.

During the regular season, Marchand scored 67 points with 29 goals and 38 assists.
