Bruins’ Sweeney says, “We’re going to be aggressive” as he gets ready for a busy offseason.

During a media conference on Wednesday, Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney reaffirmed the team’s intention to strive to push again the next season.
We’re going to take an aggressive stance, Sweeney said. “To be able to enhance what we already have in certain areas…We are in a position where we can consider adding some of the younger lads to our core group of people.
The Bruins recently lost to their Atlantic Division opponents in six games during their elimination by the Florida Panthers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Although Boston anticipated being competitive going into the 2023–24 season, they unexpectedly put up a fight for the top slot in the Eastern Conference once more.
As team president Cam Neely noted, one of the Bruins’ shortcomings was their lack of speed, which prevented them from advancing to the conference finals.
Neely remarked, “We’re not as fast as we’d like to be.”
Sweeney stated, “Our team played hard.” “To Cam’s point, the teams that are still in the game are really good, regardless of whether we could play faster or locate guys who will increase tension on the forecheck. We didn’t earn the right to be there, but they did.
Sweeny also stated during the press conference that they anticipate Matthew Poitras returning and being healthy for the upcoming season. Poitras made a fantastic start to his NHL career, earning 20 points in 33 games prior to an early season ending shoulder surgery in February.
The team’s decision to extend the contract of goaltender Jeremy Swayman was another topic of discussion on Wednesday. While the team rotated him and the current Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark during the playoffs, Swayman heated up and led Boston to the second round for the first time in three years.
According to Sweeney, the team plans to sign a new contract for Swayman.

Since Ullmark and Swayman have developed into the NHL’s top goaltender tandem, Sweeney also said that he would prefer to keep them in Boston.
