Everton ready lower approach for Florentino Luis after January bid

Florentino Luis, a midfield player for Benfica, was the target of an earlier bid from Everton, which was turned down in the January transfer window, according to O Jogo.

The deal the Toffees are putting up in front of the summer transfer window is expected to be less than their initial £25.5 million offer, according to a story in the Portuguese newspaper [22 May, pg 10].

It’s understood that the club is hoping their interest will outweigh any other potential bids for the 24-year-old, even though they are trying to offer a cheaper transfer fee for the Portuguese star.

Could Everton sign Florentino Luis, a standout for Benfica, this summer?
Prior to the 2024–2025 season, Luis would be a highly appreciated addition to Sean Dyche’s team given the Toffees’ present midfielder position.

Due to Andre Gomes’ and Dele Alli’s release, Idrissa Gana Gueye’s injury concerns, and Amadou Onana’s rumored summer departure from Goodison Park, Everton will be in dire need of midfield reinforcements.

Along with Joao Neves and Orkun Kokcu, the Portuguese defensive midfielder has become one of Benfica’s most used players. Together, they make up a young triumvirate that dominates the middle of the park.

The Toffees will undoubtedly not be able to afford the 24-year-old’s £102 million release clause this summer, therefore they will be hoping that Benfica will accept a far smaller offer.

Luis has only made 17 league starts this season, despite being a very entertaining midfielder outside of Europe’s top divisions. Given this, the player may decide to look into other options.

Luis would probably establish himself as a staple in Dyche’s team given the volume of players leaving Goodison Park this summer, especially considering his defensive prowess in front of the backline.

Naturally, the Toffees’ present difficulties may play a role in this season’s transfer window, as some players may be turned off by the takeover uncertainty and PSR concerns.
