White Sox 3, Blue Jays 9.

Words I didn’t expect to type this year: The Jays scored nine runs. 9. Nine.

José Berríos pitched 6 innings with 8 hits, 3 earned, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts despite not being at his peak performance.

He didn’t throw as hard as he has in previous starts this season. And his pitches were not as sharp as usual. Nonetheless, it is another good start. He now has eight excellent starts out of ten. That is pretty impressive.

He ran into some problems in the seventh. He allowed a home run to Paul DeJong.

In the eighth inning, Yimi Garcia entered the game with a runner on first. He recorded three quick outs, including two strikeouts.

Génesis Cabrera gave up a pair of walks in the eighth but finished without surrendering a run.

Erik Swason threw a scoreless ninth, allowing a single and making a couple of good outfield plays. Kevin Keirmaier’s sliding catch to end the game was stunning.

On offense, we had 12 hits, including two home runs:

After going three games without a hit, Bo Bichette recorded four hits, three doubles, and one RBI today.
Danny Jansen got two hits, a home run, and a double, with five RBI. Batting second in the lineup appears to agree with him.
Vladimir Guerrero went 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.
Daulton Varsho recorded two hits, a home run, and two RBI.
Justin Turner, George Springer, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa all went hitless in 29 consecutive at-bats.

The Jays of the Day are Varsho (.178 WPA), Bichette (.156), Jansen (.134), and Garcia (.129).

Other Award: Springer (-.100).

There was also an impressive 2-4-2 caught stealing at home plate. With Korey Lee on third, Nicky Lopez stole second, and as Jansen threw to second, Lee sprinted home. Davis Schneider threw back to Jansen (a terrific throw), who tagged Lee perfectly.

Garrett Crochet (4-4, 4.18) and Yusei Kikuchi (2-3, 2.60) face off tomorrow.
