On Monday night, Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers went deep for the sixth straight game, making team history.

In the top of the fourth inning of Boston’s 5-0 victory over the host Tampa Bay Rays, Devers hit a ball over the left field wall. Six prior Red Sox players had gone deep in five consecutive games, with Bobby Dalbec being the most recent in 2020.

The power explosion coincides with Devers’ 10-game hitting streak.293 (12-for-41) with six home runs and 11 RBIs over that time.

If Devers reaches the wall in each of his next two games, he will tie Ken Griffey Jr. (1993 Seattle Mariners), Don Mattingly (1987 New York Yankees), and Dale Long (1956 Pittsburgh Pirates) for the longest home-run streak in major league history.

Devers has been hitting well this season.284 with 10 home runs and 23 RBI.

Devers and the Red Sox will meet Tampa Bay again on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Florida, with right-hander Zack Littell starting for the Rays.
