Rangers fans had to perform a double take when the team was connected with Adama Traore this week. The name is most commonly connected with explosive former Barcelona winger Adama Traore, who Rangers supporters will recognize from his Premier League appearances with Wolves and now Fulham.

The idea that Rangers would sign such a guy, the quick striker who is still an active part of the squad at Craven Cottage, sounded farfetched. Well, that’s because it is. While the thought of signing a La Masía young product is appealing, a different Adama Traore has been making transfer headlines in Glasgow this week.

Adama Traore, a 28-year-old Malian international, plays wing for Ferencvaros and has explosive pace. Rangers are apparently interested in signing the attacker, who is as fast as PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, as he enters the final year of his contract in Hungary. The 54-times capped Mali winger differs from the types of players connected with Rangers ahead of a major summer overhaul.

However, it is a link that will excite Ibrox fans who hope to see more quality at the top end of the pitch next season. After scoring nine goals for the Mali national team, the attacker scored 14 goals for Ferencvaros this season alone, as the Hungarians were crowned league champions. According to one source, Rangers would pay £3.5 million to sign Adama Traore this summer. According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers aren’t the only team interested in obtaining the youngster, with Premier League club Fulham preparing to confuse their fans with a summer transfer.

Rangers need experience in the building.

The links to Adama Traore are consistent with Philippe Clement’s transfer statements this week. The Rangers boss made it plain that in order to overcome Celtic’s larger transfer budget in the title fight, the club must be ‘inventive’ in the transfer market. With the Gers looking for the ideal combination of experience and talent, Traore fits the bill as an experienced player with a proven track record of success who can step in and contribute right away.

According to the Daily Record, Clement stated: “We know we have less money than our competitors because they have more money, and they now have Champions League money. So we need to be more innovative, and so does recruitment.

“If your opponent has more money and can spend more, you must work more. That should be the challenge for making things better. We need to discover better players for lower prices. It is not usually the most expensive player who has the best overall value. It’s challenging. The larger the pool, the better the chances of catching the biggest fish. “Our pool is smaller, therefore you must be more precise. However, it is applicable to all departments, not just that one. It is used for technical, medical, and performance staffing, as well as recruitment. It is for everyone in the building. To move forward, we must all work harder.”

Later, the Rangers manager added: “We need to build more stability in the club, as well as a new recruitment approach. We’ve talked about it. You previously saw it in the January window. Despite having minimal money to spend, we were able to bring in young, skilled players. “Mohamed Diomande has demonstrated promise for future growth. Oscar Cortes, too. Fabio Silva has had ups and downs, and he is not playing in his best position, but we must continue in this manner of recruiting. However, we must maintain as much experience in the building.”
