The Philadelphia Eagles added former Ferris State cornerback Shon Stephens to their 90-man roster on Monday.

Stephens’ relocation comes only one week after he participated in the Eagles rookie minicamp.

Stephens has a unique background, as he did not play collegiate football from 2019 to 2021. Instead, he used that time off to care for his sick mother. The NCAA also refused his transfer requests to Penn State and Purdue.

He made the most of his two seasons of college football at Division II colleges Ferris State and West Liberty, recording 16 interceptions and earning All-American honors in 2022.

He drew the attention of several national scouts during the pre-NFL Draft process after a spectacular performance at Michigan State’s Pro Day, where he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash and a 6.99 3-cone drill.

Stephens is also the nephew of Joey Porter Sr., a 13-year NFL veteran, and cousin of Joey Porter Jr., a Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback.

Eagles’ 14 cornerbacks Competing for a roster spot.
The Eagles’ cornerback competition will be one to watch throughout the offseason.

With Stephens joining the mix, the Eagles now have 14 cornerbacks vying for a roster spot, including 2024 first and second-round selections Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Here are the Eagles’ 14 cornerbacks:

Darius Slay
James Bradberry
Avonte Maddox
Mekhi Garner
Mario Goodrich
Quinyon Mitchell Cooper DeJean
Isaiah Rodgers
Tyler Hall
Kelee Ringo
Eli Ricks
Joshua Jobe
Zech McPhearson
Shon Stephens
Cornerback was perhaps the Eagles’ weakest position last season, but it could be their strongest today, at least on paper.

Darius Slay, Quinyon Michell, Avonte Maddox, Kelee Ringo, Cooper DeJean, and Josh Jobe are most likely to make the final 53-man roster. However, the others will have a reasonable opportunity.

In addition to signing Stephens, the Eagles released tight end Noah Togiai.
