The crowd were ecstatic, but Alabama football players are even more excited about their new teammates.

DaShawn Jones, a former Wake Forest cornerback, committed to the Crimson Tide on Wednesday via the NCAA transfer portal. Jones, a Baltimore (Md.) native, recorded 60 total tackles, seven pass breakups, and three interceptions in three seasons with the Demon Deacons. He redshirted his rookie season in 2021, giving him two years to enjoy the production he garnered.

The 6-foot, 181-pounder provides the Tide with valuable experience at a crucial position. Jahlil Hurley is Alabama’s only scholarship cornerback from the 2023 signing class. Kalen DeBoer also watched Jameer Grimsely and Peyton Woodyard, both from the 2024 class, depart the Tide for the gateway. Jones has the potential to make a significant impact in Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 Swarm Defense. A few Alabama players reacted on Instagram to the news that Jones will be joining them in Tuscaloosa.
