Kevin Gausman cools off Dodgers as Jays end slide.

Alejandro Kirk went 3-for-3 with a home run, right-hander Kevin Gausman worked seven good innings, and the Toronto Blue Jays upset the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Jays escaped a three-game sweep and snapped their five-game losing run.

Freddie Freeman homered for the Dodgers, who had a six-game winning run snapped. They are 5-1 on their nine-game road tour.

Gausman (1-3) gave up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out five.

Michael Grove (0-1) started for the Dodgers and gave up three runs and four hits in two innings, striking out three. Alex Vesia replaced him for one inning, and Ryan Yarbrough pitched four scoreless innings.

Toronto scored three runs in the second inning. Former Dodger Justin Turner hit, advanced to third on Davis Schneider’s double, and scored when Daulton Varsho grounded out to first. Schneider scored on a groundout to third base by Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Kirk launched a 3-1 hanging sinker to right for his first home run of the season.

Gausman pitched around Max Muncy’s lead-off double in the fifth inning.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Freeman blasted a 0-2 fastball to center for his second home run of the season. It brought his hitting streak to eight games.

In the eighth, Yimi Garcia took over for Gausman and walked Austin Barnes on the first pitch. Mookie Betts followed with a double to center, extending his hitting streak to eight and putting runners on second and third. Shohei Ohtani came out, and Freeman was purposefully walked. Teoscar Hernandez struck out. Tim Mayza replaced Garcia, and the inning ended when Varsho caught Muncy’s drive to center against the wall.

Jordan Romano took over in the ninth inning for Toronto. George Springer made an excellent catch in right field on Andy Pages’ liner, and Romano struck out the next two batters to clinch his fourth save of the season.
