In the midst of transfer portal season, Nate Oats and his staff added another freshman to their highly regarded recruiting class, signing top-35 talent Labron Philon.

Philon is a 4-star point guard who ranks 33rd overall in the 2024 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is a Mobile, Alabama native. He attended Baker High School until his junior year before transferring to Link Academy in Missouri for his senior year.

Philon, who had previously pledged to Auburn, decommitted after assistant coach Wes Flanigan transferred to Ole Miss. Philon then committed to Kansas, where he signed his letter of intent, and requested release from his NLI this week.

Philon joins an immensely loaded recruiting class in Tuscaloosa, which includes two McDonald’s All-Americans in 5-star Derrion Reid and Aiden Sherrell, as well as top-50 recruit Naas Cunningham.

Philon offers even more depth to Alabama’s guard corps for next season. Latrell Wrightsell has already declared his return, adding South Florida transfer Chris Youngblood, Pepperdine transfer Houston Mallette, and Auburn transfer Aden Holloway. With the roster still being established, it’s unknown what role Philon will play in his debut season, especially given Mark Sears’ anticipated NBA Draft decision.

The Crimson Tide now has only one open roster place remaining, with seven incoming players, four freshmen and three transfers. Oats and his staff are still looking to add a center through the transfer portal to finish out their offseason roster.
