The Philadelphia Eagles control the 22nd pick in the NFL Draft, but they are dissatisfied with their draft position.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are looking to move up in the draft and have made more calls to teams ahead of Day 1 on Thursday.

Philadelphia is expected to pursue a cornerback with their choice, which is not surprising given the club’s 31st-ranked passing defense this season.

Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell is the top-ranked cornerback in this year’s draft class, so Philadelphia could be targeting him with the pick.

The Eagles are coming off of a nightmare 2023 season. At the very least, the second half was nightmare-like.

Philadelphia started the season 10-1, but lost five of its next six games to finish 11-6. It became the only team in NFL history to fail to win 12 games after winning 10 of its first 11. Philadelphia then lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

The Eagles were fairly active in free agency, with running back Saquon Barkley being their biggest deal. It was an unusual decision for a Philadelphia organization that normally avoids giving significant money to halfbacks, but it appeared to believe adding Barkley was crucial for an offense that struggled down the stretch in 2023.

Philadelphia possesses two second-round draft picks in addition to the 22nd overall pick, so it has plenty of firepower to make a significant trade to move up.

We’ll see if the Eagles can get anything accomplished in the coming days.
