The Buckeyes’ basketball team has been scouring the trade market for a new player. The absence of Jamison Battle leaves the Buckeyes without a seasoned wing player. They have been scouring the transfer site for a towering guard or a real wing to occupy that position.

That player is now with the Buckeyes. The news broke that guard Micah Parrish will be moving to Ohio State from San Diego State. The Buckeyes will get him in his last year of eligibility. While playing for the Aztecs in 2022–23, he helped them win the national championship game against UConn.

At 6 feet 6 inches and 195 pounds, Parrish is towering. The Buckeyes will benefit from his huge wingspan more on defense than offense. He may or may not start, but even if he doesn’t, he can provide some much-needed bench support. They need someone who can come off the bench and switch defensively between two or three spots.

Parrish averaged 9.3 points per game with the Aztecs a year ago. He’s not a very good shooter as he shot just 39% from the field last season. That’s part of the reason why he may not start. It’s hard to have a man out there who is not a threat offensively.

Even said, Parrish adds something the Buckeyes didn’t have on the roster; length on the perimeter. The perimeter defense was dreadful for them last season, particularly when Chris Holtmann was still controlling things. Having a tall guard close out on three-point shooters makes things harder for the opposition.
