Tiger Woods tries to get UK party golf course to change name after Masters nightmare

Representatives for Tiger Woods have reportedly submitted a cease and desist notice to a new party golf course in Wales over its name. Amateur golfer Matthew Wharton has admitted that he was astonished to get the letter after establishing his PuttStroke venue.

The name of the premium mini golf course has a striking resemblance to Woods’s business PopStroke. Woods is a co-owner of the PopStroke firm that operates multiple mini golf courses in the US.

According to the Daily Post, JA Kemp, a major patent and trademark company in London representing Woods, have approached Wharton on fears that fans may be deceived by the similarities between the names of the two businesses.

Speaking about his suggestions last month, Wharton said: “I’m taking inspiration from several of the mini golf courses designed by Tiger Woods and his team. I’m naming it Puttstroke but I may have to think again if I get a warning letter from Tiger.”

But Wharton now faces a name change and will put the decision in the hands of the people after the ‘cease and desist’ order. His idea, which has a lighted course, intends to create a family-oriented blend of golfing enjoyment and al fresco dining.
“I was a bit shocked to receive the letter,” Wharton said in a separate interview.

“It arrived pretty soon after I announced the venture. I was shocked that had attracted Tiger’s eye so soon, but I think in a way that’s quite a compliment – maybe it shows he’s worried about the competition!

“I’m happy to go along with the request and look for a new name. I’ve decided to seek inspiration from the public – to see if they can offer something suitable. I’d be thrilled to hear ideas for the new name so long as it’s not Putty McPuttFace or something.
