Are Andrei Svechnikov’s lacrosse-style goals becoming, dare we say it, more predictable? On Tuesday against the Boston Bruins, the Carolina Hurricanes forward scored while on the move. Svechnikov is the first player to successfully score in the NHL, and he now has three in his career.

So did Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras, who is known for his trick shots. However, Canes players acknowledged the shot still has that “wow” factor.

Coach Rod Brind’Amour, too. “It should be,” Brind’Amour stated Thursday. “When he pulled that out for the first time, it literally revolutionized minor hockey.”

Every child can now do it. Including Brooks Brind’Amour, the coach’s youngest hockey player son? “Oh, yeah,” Brind’Amour replied. “Since that day, not a single youngster in Raleigh has been unable to perform or attempt anything. And many have perfected it. You watch kids’ games now, and once in a while, someone pulls it off, and it’s become routine.”

Svechnikov’s third goal against the Bruins could have been the greatest of the three. “It was so fast, so skillful,” Brind’Amour remarked. “And I don’t believe that was the top story on the (NHL) highlights the following day.

It was like, ‘Aw, we’ve seen it before.’ However, it’s an excellent skill.” Taking the puck near the right corner, Svechnikov made a fast move around Bruins forward John Beecher before carrying it behind the net, loading it up on the back of his blade, and beating goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman.
