Three Ohio State football players stand to lose the most from a terrible spring game.

The Ohio State football team will play their spring game on Saturday. These players can’t afford a poor performance in that game.

The Ohio State football team is preparing for their Spring Game this weekend. This will be the supporters’ first opportunity to witness the team in person. It will also be the first time a Spring Game from anyone has been shown on network television, with FOX airing the game at noon.

This game provides an opportunity for many players to acquire playing time or to consolidate their position on the depth chart. We went through the guys that stand to gain the most from Saturday’s game. Some players stand to lose a lot if they don’t perform properly.

All of these players are competing for a starting position in 2024. A terrible performance in the Spring Game would all but eliminate their chances of landing those starting spots. Coincidentally, all of these Buckeyes are on the offensive side of the ball, where there are more available positions.

The first man is expected to start at quarterback this season.

1. Will Howard.

Will Howard did not come to the Ohio State football program to sit on the bench. He arrived to lead the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title and a national championship. Coming into the spring, he is expected to start in the fall.

Nothing he has done in practice has changed that, although several players behind him have performed well to cut the distance. Devin Brown and rookie Julian Sayin have both demonstrated remarkable performance in practice. They will not go down without a fight in the battle for the starting quarterback position.

A terrible performance on Saturday would substantially reduce the space between Howard and those two. This is especially true if both players perform well. Howard is the only one in the room who has started a regular season game in college, so I expect him to do great.

Howard will get first-team reps to start the game. It’s unclear how long he’ll be in, but I expect him to get the fewest reps of any quarterback battling for time. He does not require as many as the other guys do.

The next person on this list is someone Howard may potentially throw the ball to in the fall.
