According to The Weather Channel, the prognosis for this week’s IndyCar open test for the 108th running of the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is not looking encouraging.

There is a 79% chance of rain at the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Speedway, Indiana track on Wednesday, and a 96% chance of rain on Thursday, when the two-day test is scheduled to take place.

Due to the predicted inclement weather, a few changes have been made to Wednesday’s test program

The schedule for the open tests at the Indianapolis 500 has changed.

The test was originally scheduled to begin on Wednesday with a session for veteran drivers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. That session has been rescheduled for 9:05 a.m. ET to 11:00 a.m. ET, with all 34 drivers, not only veterans, scheduled to begin installation laps at 9:00 a.m. ET.

The Rookie Orientation Program and refresher tests have been changed from 1:00 p.m. ET to 11:00 a.m. ET, and they will end at 1:00 p.m. ET rather than 3:00 p.m. All drivers will thereafter be allowed to test between 1:00 p.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. ET, rather than 3:00 p.m. ET to 6:00 p.m. ET.

This schedule may potentially vary depending on the weather. Thursday’s phase of the test has not yet been changed, with all drivers permitted to run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.

Last year’s two-day exam was cut short owing to inclement weather, while another practice session was postponed in May due to heavy rain. All things considered, it’s remarkable that the Indy 500 hasn’t been postponed due to adverse weather in 27 years, and it hasn’t been cut short since 2007.
