It is a question that has been asked all season. Sure, Thompson has had his ups and downs during the 2023-24 season, but he has remained one of the Warriors’ greatest players over the team’s four-championship run. Thompson answered the question during his visit on The Draymond Green Show, as reported by ClutchPoints.

“I just can’t believe it’s here,” Thompson said of his impending free agency. “Being in your mid-20s is wild. You truly believe you will be able to play indefinitely. I was really battling with that at the start of this year because of the unknown, you know? I may have overlooked contract situations or playing time. Making a lot of excuses instead of simply appreciating what is in front of me. It took me and Steve (Kerr) about four genuine heart-to-heart conversations to eventually crack my shell. Like, you know what? I have to have fun this year, and I deserve it.

“I can still be a great athlete if I just express thanks and maintain that viewpoint. I’m out here ballin’. When it comes to free agency in July, I’ll keep that in mind. Yes, I want to re-sign with the Warriors. But I also need to prioritize my mental health and define what is important to me at this stage in my career.

Klay Thompson has spent his whole career with the Warriors, where he has played alongside players like Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. However, the 2023-24 season could be his final season with the team. Having said that, Thompson is open to the possibility of reuniting in free agency.

The 34-year-old is regarded as one of the best long-range shooters in basketball history. He poses a consistent threat from beyond the arc. Despite Thompson’s poor season in 2023-24, the Warriors guard is still shooting 38.4 percent from deep. There are lots of players in the NBA who would love to shoot over 38% from three-point range.
Thompson averages 17.6 points each game. Thompson may not be the same player he once was, but there is no doubt that he can still help his team win. Right now, he is focused on doing his best for the Warriors. Thompson should attract interest from across the league in NBA free agency as well.
