The Detroit Lions finished third in yards and sixth in points in the 2023 season. However, some NFL mock draft experts believe the team will still seek a quality position player early in the 2024 NFL draft. On March 30, SI.com’s All Lions’ Christian Booher advocated that the Lions make a bold trade up the draft board to acquire Georgia tight end Brock Bowers.

Booher felt that adding Bowers to Detroit’s offensive would make the team “unstoppable.”

“Adding Bowers would allow the Lions to use 12 personnel groups without the opponent being able to plan against the run. Detroit has developed its identity on a run-first offense with two good running backs, but Bowers’ pass-catching ability would push the defense to be aware of the ball,” writes Booher.

“The Georgia product is a superb route runner with exceptional catching ability. His athleticism is among the finest in the draft class.

“Moreover, Bowers would be a matchup nightmare next to Sam LaPorta. If teams fill the box to stop the run, Bowers or LaPorta would have a better matchup against a linebacker or an undersized defensive back.

“With so many talented threats across the board, Johnson’s group would be among the most feared in the league.”

Bowers is largely regarded as one of the greatest prospects in the 2024 draft class, not just as a pass catcher, but overall. ESPN, Pro Football Focus, and Bleacher Report all list Bowers as a top ten prospect in the class.
