Liverpool will start discussions with Trent Alexander-Arnold at the end of the season, amid strong interest from Real Madrid.

The right-back’s current contract at Anfield expires in 2025, leaving the England star open to interest from other teams, since this summer would be the best moment to move the defender if a new contract cannot be agreed upon.

Real Madrid is one team that is keeping an eye on Alexander-Arnold’s contract issue at Liverpool, with Fabrizio Romano revealing last week that the La Liga club has a concrete interest in the Reds star but the Merseyside outfit does not want to sell him.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool will initiate contract talks with the 25-year-old at the end of the season, with the intention of keeping their indigenous talent for many more years.

Why has Trent Alexander-Arnold not been offered a new contract?

The major reason Liverpool has not offered Alexander-Arnold a new contract so far is because there is a lot going on behind the scenes at Anfield.

Michael Edwards has just returned to the Premier League club, and Richard Hughes is due to join him as sporting director. Their primary goal now is to identify a successor to the departing Jurgen Klopp, and only then can they focus on bringing in new players and offering contracts to current stars.

Liverpool will not want to lose Alexander-Arnold, who is one of the most gifted full-backs in the game. The Scouser will not want to leave the club he supports, and it is envisaged that a satisfactory outcome will be achieved shortly.
