Manchester United are looking to add defensive reinforcements at the conclusion of the season, with many centre-backs’ futures uncertain.

Raphael Varane’s contract expires in June, as does Jonny Evans’, while Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof may be sold as part of a summer clearout.

United’s defensive performance this season has been woeful to say the least, with the team allowing three or more goals 12 times, five of which have come at Old Trafford.

INEOS hopes to find a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez and has been connected with moves for Jean-Clair Todibo, Antonio Silva, and Jarrad Branthwaite, to name a few.

Bremer Chase

One name that has gained traction in recent days is Juventus player Gleison Bremer, who supposedly has a release clause worth between €60 and €70 million.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is apparently ready to trigger the release clause, but the club is also considering another inventive alternative.

According to The Peoples Person, the Red Devils could take advantage of Turin’s interest in Mason Greenwood to negotiate a significantly lower price.

However, according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, triggering the release clause would not be the end of the story because the Brazilian will also be able to choose his final destination.

And, for the time being, the 27-year-old would rather play for Liverpool or Manchester City in the Premier League than Manchester United.

Bremer could end up in Liverpool or City.

“There are clubs (for example Manchester United) who have been interested for some time, but the final say belongs to Bremer who is currently more oriented towards joining Real Madrid, Manchester City or Liverpool.”

This will be a significant loss for United, who could use someone of his caliber after being nominated to the Serie A team of the season for the past two years in a row.

Losing him to the Merseysiders or the noisy neighbours will not be the ideal look for INEOS in their first transfer window, but both teams are sure to compete in the Champions League next season and have a much better chance of winning trophies, at least in the short term.

Bremer has helped the Old Lady retain 15 clean sheets in 29 appearances this season, and they have conceded the second fewest goals in the Italian top league.
