Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced on Sunday that forward Riley Duran has signed a two-year, entry-level contract that will begin in the 2024-25 season. According to CapFriendly, the contract will have a cap hit of $867,500.

Duran will join the Bruins’ American Hockey League (AHL) club, the Providence Bruins, on an amateur tryout contract.
The Woburn, Massachusetts native played 35 games for the Providence College Friars in the NCAA in 2023-24, totaling nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. Duran was in his third season with the Friars, having scored 27 goals and 28 assists in 102 NCAA games for 55 points.

The Bruins originally selected Duran at No. 182 overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. Duran played 27 games for Lawrence Academy that season, scoring 22 goals and 44 points to lead the squad. The next season, the 6-foot-2, 181-pound forward chose to play for the Youngstown Phantoms of the United States Hockey League (USHL) during his gap year before joining Providence. Duran scored eight goals and 11 assists in 47 games for the Phantoms, totaling 19 points and 32 penalty minutes.

The Halifax Mooseheads selected Duran in the 2018 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) American Draft, but he chose to play collegiate hockey instead. Duran represented the United States at the IIHF World Juniors in 2021-22, playing on a talented team that has produced NHL players such as Minnesota’s Brock Faber, New Jersey’s Luke Hughes, Calgary’s Matt Coronato, Toronto’s Matthew Knies, and San Jose’s Thomas Bordeleau, to mention a few. Duran scored two goals and added three assists for a total of five points in five games.

Providence is second in the Atlantic Division, with a 36-18-4-3 record and 79 points in 61 games. Duran should get some playing time with the Bruins with 11 games left in the regular season.
