Canadiens’ head coach rejoins the team.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that head coach Martin St-Louis has returned to the team in Denver after taking a 10-day leave to spend time with his family.

St-Louis will return to the bench Tuesday night, when the Canadiens face the Colorado Avalanche. St. Louis praised Geoff Molson, Jeff Gorton, and Kent Hughes, as well as assistant coach Trevor Letowski, who took over as head coach during St. Louis’ absence. He also expressed gratitude to the whole Canadiens organization for their support of his family.

St-Louis took time away from the Canadiens to spend with his family after his youngest son Mason sustained a hockey injury while playing with U15 Mid-Fairfield in Connecticut.

A week later, the 16-year-old was reportedly hospitalized due to complications from the injury. Mason’s condition has improved since his hospitalization, and he is now able to rehabilitate at home.

St-Louis thanked everyone for respecting his family’s privacy and urged that they focus on the squad for the rest of the 2023-24 season.

St. Louis’ return might provide the Canadiens a boost as they try to finish the season on a high note. The young squad will miss the playoffs for the third consecutive season under St-Louis, but it is only four points short of matching last season’s totals with 12 games remaining.

The Canadiens have progressed with each season under St-Louis and could be in contention for a playoff position next season if they make any moves this summer to address roster flaws.
