Liverpool fans receive compensation after 2022 Champions League final as UEFA agrees a settlement over the chaotic scenes in Paris

On Friday, UEFA reached a final settlement with Liverpool fans who filed personal injury claims stemming from their experiences at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.

Thousands of Liverpool fans were barred from entering the Stade de France for the final on May 28, which Real Madrid won 1-0, prompting a 36-minute delay as French police were recorded tear-gassing crowds outside the stadium.

‘Liverpool supporters, represented by Pogust Goodhead and Bingham Long, will receive an amount as compensation for the difficulties and hardships they endured,’ UEFA said in a statement, adding that the terms of the settlement will be kept confidential.

UEFA then established a refund program; however, Real Madrid deemed it ‘insufficient’ and refused to contribute, while the affected fans took legal action.

Following the incident, the governing body initiated a series of procedures for the upcoming finals, including implementing the Independent Review’s recommendations, boosting the number of security officers, and integrating fans in preparation and execution.
