In recent years, the Reds have competed to keep some of its finest players. Mohamed Salah was linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia after Saudi Pro League club Al Ittihad expressed an interest in the Egyptian.

Liverpool turned down the interest, but Salah has just over a year left on his contract at Anfield, which means he could depart for free in 16 months. In recent weeks, forward Luis Diaz has been the subject of conjecture over his future on Merseyside, with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona believed to be interested.

Marmoush has become the latest player to be linked with a move to League 4, but who is he? Liverpool Echo takes a peek.

Who is Omar Marmoush?
Omar Marmoush, a 25-year-old forward, began his football career with Egyptian Premier League club Wadi Degla in 2016. He scored three goals in his rookie season before traveling to Europe to play for Wolfsburg.

He spent his first three years in Germany with the reserves and junior teams until making his Bundesliga debut in May 2020 against Bayer Leverkusen, winning 4-1 away. His first taste of first-team football came on loan with 2.Bundesliga club St. Pauli, when he scored seven league goals.

After only 22 minutes in Wolfsburg’s first three games of the 2021/22 season, the Egyptian attacker was loaned out to top-flight side Stuttgart. In 23 appearances, he scored three goals and assisted five others, earning a spot in Egypt’s AFCON team.

His first full season with Wolfsburg included 36 appearances. However, after only 17 starts, he departed the club in the summer to join league rivals Frankfurt when his contract expired.

Marmoush has been on fire at the Waldstadion this season. Ten goals in 20 Bundesliga games have attracted the attention, as have four goals in seven Europa Conference League games.

Marmoush frequently appears for his country alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. He made his debut for Egypt at the age of 22 under Carlos Queiroz and has since become a fixture in the squad.

Liverpool are ‘interested’ in Omar Marmoush
According to the German news site BILD, Liverpool is one of the clubs that has listed the Egyptian. However, the article claims that they are not alone in their curiosity, as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are alleged to have had a long-term interest.

Marmoush reportedly wants to play in England and the Premier League. Eintracht sporting director Markus Krosche is claimed to be aware of the 25-year-old’s desire to move to England’s top flight, but his price tag has risen to €50 million (£42 million).

Marmoush is the German club’s leading striker this season, with 15 goals, and despite Dino Toppmoller’s desire to keep the attacker, they will consider selling him if he continues to grow.
