Thursday night at the Bell Centre, the Boston Bruins defeated the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 in overtime. It wasn’t a nice game, but they won and will take two points home.

24 seconds into overtime, Danton Heinen scored his 12th goal of the season, Nick Suzuki, the goalie for the Canadiens, scored his 26th goal and the team’s lone goal, and Jake DeBrusk scored his 16th goal of the season 4:49 into the first period.

The Bruins are now 6-19 in overtime after winning their 25th game in OT.

Boston Hockey Now’s Bruins postgame is here:

CLUTCH: Jake DeBrusk, who only a week ago had no idea if he would be a Boston Bruin following last Friday’s 3 p.m. ET NHL Trade Deadline, has every right to be delighted. Debrusk, who has shown no reservations about wanting to play for the Boston Bruins this season and beyond, was on fire after the deadline passed, recording two goals and an assist in his last three games. The Bruins were in prime form when DeBrusk scored the game-winning goal in overtime just 24 seconds into the extra period.

DOGHOUSE: Both Ullamark and Montembeault faced fewer shots because, for long portions of the game, neither team was able to put the puck in the goal. Pucks were simply not finding their way through the net as frequently as they usually did, whether it was because of blocked shots or simple misses. The Canadiens blocked 21 shots, while the Bruins stopped 18. In the meantime, the home team missed 12 and the visitors missed 17 in total. Jake Evans led the Canadiens with five blocked shots, while Charlie McSvoy and Charlie Coyle led the Bruins with three each.

BANGER: On Thursday night, Jakub Lauko, a winger for the Boston Bruins, was like a runaway train, hitting everything in his path. With five hits, the 6-foot-1, 193-pound winger led all skaters.

UNSUNG HERO: On Thursday night, goalies Samuel Montembeault of the Montreal Canadiens and Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins both performed admirably for their clubs. Even though the Bruins and Canadiens combined for just 23 and 19 shots, respectively, there were some excellent scoring opportunities among them, and both goalies performed admirably.

Special Mention: All the Boston Bruins supporters that swarmed Montreal’s streets and Bell Centre!

UP NEXT: The Boston Bruins will host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, and the New York Rangers on Thursday night for a three-game homestand.
