Altay Bayindir, Manchester United’s backup goalkeeper, will miss the FA Cup quarterfinal against Liverpool due to a muscle problem.

Bayindir will not be part of Turkey’s national squad for friendlies against Hungary and Austria later this month. United goalkeeper Tom Heaton resumed full training this week and is expected to be named to the bench after missing the previous eight games due to a niggle.

Summer signings Bayindir only appeared for United once, in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Newport County. He was not prepared to start against Liverpool.

Jonny Evans will also be out this weekend after it was determined that he needed time to recover from a knock he had been dealing with. Evans started the last two matches against Manchester City and Everton.

England manager Gareth Southgate revealed on Thursday that Harry Maguire is back in training. Along with Raphael Varane, the centre half might replace Evans.

Rasmus Hojlund, who has been out for three weeks due to a muscular ailment, is expected to start against Liverpool, according to Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand. Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, will provide an update on his fitness during his pre-match press conference this afternoon.

“Obviously, Rasmus will play on Sunday against Liverpool and must perform well,” Hjulmand remarked on Tuesday. “That is what we expect. We are in contact with United. I spoke with Erik, and we expect that to happen.

“But it is clear that he has to go through the match well, and there must be nothing wrong with him after the game, for it to be possible (for him to play for Denmark).”

Maguire was nominated to Southgate’s England team for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, while Hojlund was included in Denmark’s squad.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Mount resumed full training on Tuesday following lengthy layoffs.
