Liverpool is now preparing for a massive summer of change, with several new faces joining the dugout, backroom staff, and, presumably, the first-team squad. The uncertainty came after Jürgen Klopp announced his departure from Anfield after nine years in command, and sporting director Jörg Schmadtke also stepped down following the January transfer window.

Before making a managerial selection, Liverpool will require a new sporting director. The Reds have taken the first step in addressing this by confirming Michael Edwards’ return to the FSG fold as football CEO.

Edwards, 44, will now handle the club’s post-Klopp era after earning the fanbase’s respect by being directly responsible for signings such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson Becker during his first spell. After selecting a new sporting director, with Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes prominently connected, his focus will shift to Klopp’s successor and new additions to support the incoming manager.

Here is Liverpool.com’s take on the latest transfer rumours surrounding the Reds. First up, we have a Serie A midfield star.

Teun Koopmeiners (Atalanta)

Teun Koopmeiners has shone for Atalanta this season and is attracting the interest of prominent clubs throughout Europe. Liverpool is reportedly interested in the Netherlands international.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, Liverpool has already informed Atalanta of its interest in Koopmeiners. This summer, the Italian club is expected to be more prepared to move players to the Premier League in order to obtain the maximum potential transfer fee.

Liverpool had been linked with a bid for Koopmeiners’ teammate Éderson in previous months, but no offer materialized. The club invested extensively in the midfield last summer with the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endō, and Ryan Gravenberch. However, the current injury concerns highlight how further reinforcements may be needed.
