Micky van de Ven, Tottenham Hotspur’s injured center defender, has received some positive news! We informed you yesterday that Tottenham were awaiting the findings of Micky’s training ground assessment to establish the extent of his hamstring injury sustained against Aston Villa. Big Ange provided a quick update to the Guardian today, stating that van de Ven will be out of action for the Fulham encounter but will hopefully return shortly after the international break.

So having injured players is never a good thing, but while Ange is being coy here, we now know that the injury isn’t bad enough to require surgery. In that sense, this is a good update. Fulham away feels like the type of encounter that Spurs can handle defensively with Radu Dragusin — it’s why we bought him, after all! — and the two-week break afterwards should allow Micky to target the home meeting against Fulham on March 30 as a return.

And, if Micky needs a little more time even then, Spurs should be able to handle Luton without their fastest centre back. To be honest, if you were going to schedule Micky van de Ven for a multi-week injury, now is perhaps one of the ideal times to do so. I’m feeling pretty good.
