While Liverpool struggled with injuries, their academy stepped up at the right time to help them win the Carabao Cup with a last-minute triumph over Chelsea. The Reds may soon add a South American gem to their roster of excellent young players.

Liverpool Transfer News

By the time Virgil van Dijk rose highest to head home Kostas Tsimikas’ corner in the 118th minute, Liverpool had up to six academy graduates on the field. Jarell Quansah, Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns, James McConnell, Harvey Elliott, and Caoimhin Kelleher all participated in the festivities, which are the ultimate manifestation of Jurgen Klopp’s legacy

However, Liverpool can find potential stars outside of their own academy as well. With a new era poised to begin when Klopp leaves at the end of the season, the Reds could look for reinforcements abroad. This includes South America, where players such as Alexis MacAllister and Moises Caicedo have risen to prominence in the Premier League.

While Brighton & Hove Albion were the early beneficiaries of Mac Allister and Caicedo, the Reds could be the next to reap the benefits, eliminating the Brighton-shaped middleman. According to Brazilian media, Liverpool has despatched officials to Brazil to negotiate with Luis Guilherme and his agent, with a bid expected in the coming days.

After earlier reports claimed that Liverpool were in pole position to sign Palmeiras’ 18-year-old, the club appears to be moving ahead with their agreement, which might cost approximately €35 million (£30 million), despite the midfielder’s stated €55 million (£47 million) release clause. Guilherme, a player for the future, could soon show to be a bargain for the Reds.

“Fast” Guilherme can lead the new Liverpool period.

Liverpool may look to Xabi Alonso as they prepare for life without Klopp, with sources stating that contact has already been made in advance of potentially welcoming the Bayer Leverkusen manager. If it is the Spaniard, his 3-4-2-1 system, which employs two advanced midfielders, will shape Liverpool’s summer acquisitions. And this is where Guilherme would come in.

The young Brazilian, an advanced midfielder who can also play as a winger, might thrive in the role that Alonso has utilized to bring the most out of Florian Wirtz this season, giving Liverpool an immediate star.

The teenager also has fans in Brazil, with Transfermarkt Area Manager Brazil Marcos Watts stating via Transfermarkt: “Luis Guilherme highlights the success of Palmeiras’ youth academy.” He is only 17, but he is already capable of being an influential No.10 in Brazil’s Série A, as well as a winger. He is one of Brazil’s greatest talents.

“He is extremely fast—both physically and mentally—and has a fantastic left foot. If he continues on his current course, he has the potential to become a top player in Europe. “I believe he has the potential to become the Seleção’s future No.10.”
