Liverpool player Thiago Alcantara is reportedly on his way out of Anfield as his contract expires this season.

According to Neil Jones of Caught Offside, considering the club’s current predicament, the Spaniard’s exit is almost certain.

Jones writes: “I would be quite skeptical of Liverpool’s links with players like Joshua Kimmich and Nicolo Barella. Without a doubt, these are good players. In fact, they are excellent players.

“But Liverpool is not short in midfielders, and with the exception of Endo and Thiago Alcantara, who will almost surely depart in the summer, they are all younger than those two.

“The promise of Curtis Jones, Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Harvey Elliott, and Ryan Gravenberch is clear, and with the likes of Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark rising, it is difficult to understand the need for a 29-year-old Kimmich or a 27-year-old Barella.

“I believe Liverpool’s squad strategy this summer will be about fine-tuning rather than revamping.

“They were happy with the midfield business they did last summer, so expect attention to switch to other areas – central defence, full-back and the forward line – now.”

A dismal finale to Thiago Alcantara’s tenure at Anfield

Alcantara, who moved from Bayern Munich to Liverpool in 2020, has had an injury-plagued stint, falling short of the high expectations set for him upon arrival.

Despite his evident quality and expertise, Alcantara’s impact at Liverpool has been restricted by a succession of unfortunate injuries.

These setbacks have severely limited his availability for selection, making it impossible for him to consistently contribute to the team’s efforts.

Liverpool made significant attempts to strengthen their midfield options during the recent summer transfer window, anticipating a roster refresh. The additions of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo not only injected new energy into the midfield, but also increased competition for positions on the team.

This flood of talent has played a critical role in Liverpool’s remarkable season, which has seen them lead the Premier League standings and win the Carabao Cup by defeating Chelsea in the Final.

Furthermore, their run in the FA Cup and UEFA Europa League demonstrates the squad’s depth and skill.
