Arrow McLaren has confirmed that Callum Ilott will replace David Malukas in the No. 6 Chevrolet for the 2024 IndyCar season opening.

David Malukas, who Arrow McLaren signed to replace Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist behind the wheel of the No. 6 Chevrolet after missing out on Alex Palou for the second straight IndyCar silly season, was involved in a mountain biking accident last month that injured his wrist.

Following successful surgery, the 22-year-old was expected to take six weeks to heal after having his stitches removed on Thursday, February 22, therefore putting him out of the 2024 IndyCar season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida this Sunday, March 10.

Arrow McLaren has confirmed that Callum Ilott will race the No. 6 Chevrolet in Sunday’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, replacing the former Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports driver.

Callum Ilott returns to IndyCar at St. Petersburg.

Ilott was left without a ride for the 2024 season after a long-anticipated split with Juncos Hollinger Racing. He was regarded as one of the sport’s most promising free agents, but by the time his release was announced, many of the best seats had already been filled.

He finished fifth in last year’s season opening on the streets of St. Petersburg, a career high, while driving for a team that was not nearly as competitive as Arrow McLaren. The 25-year-old Briton joins a three-car lineup that also includes Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi, who are in their fifth and second seasons with the organization, respectively.

Malukas will also miss The Thermal Club’s $1 Million Challenger on Sunday, March 24, despite the fact that this is not a points event. The second points race of the 17-race season is not scheduled until Sunday, April 21, thus Malukas should be cleared to return to the streets of Long Beach, California.

The driver of the No. 6 Chevrolet in the race The Thermal Club has yet to be announced.

Arrow McLaren’s confirmation completes the 27-car driver lineup for the 2024 season opener, with Dale Coyne Racing also announcing Tuesday that Jack Harvey and Colin Braun will compete for the team this weekend after losing Malukas to Arrow McLaren and Sting Ray Robb to A.J. Foyt Enterprises last season.
