Bayern Munich have ‘opened talks with Xabi Alonso’ as the Bayer Leverkusen coach is ‘targeted as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement’ despite being linked with a move to Liverpool.

According to sources, Bayern Munich has begun conversations with Xabi Alonso about replacing Thomas Tuchel as manager of Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

Alonso is anticipated to be in high demand at the conclusion of the season, with his Leverkusen team remaining unbeaten as they closing in on the Bundesliga crown and both Liverpool and Bayern interested in the Spaniard.

Bayern are already looking for their new head coach after Tuchel stated he would leave in the summer, and talks with Alonso are currently underway, according to Sky Germany.
Bayern have identified Alonso as their preferred choice to succeed Tuchel, who has seen his team fall 10 points behind Alonso’s Leverkusen in the league rankings.

Leverkusen appear to be on track to end Munich’s 12-year reign over the German top flight and win their first Bundesliga title after starring under Alonso’s tutelage.
Alonso previously played for Bayern after leaving Real Madrid, and the 42-year-old has sent ‘good signals’ that he might be interested in joining the club this summer.

However, his departure is projected to cost Germany’s most decorated club between £13 million and £21 million due to a set provision in his contract with Leverkusen.
