Rio Ferdinand believes that if given the choice, Mikel Arteta would prefer to join Manchester United rather than Arsenal.

Since taking over at the Emirates in 2019 to follow Unai Emery, the Spaniard has transformed Arsenal’s on-field performance.

Before leading Arsenal to a title bid the previous season, Arteta guided the club to eighth and fifth places in his first two full seasons in charge.

Could Arsenal win a championship after 20 years of waiting?

Arsenal, who are now the strongest club in the Premier League, figure to be a strong contender for the league title for the first time since 2004.

On the other hand, Ferdinand’s former club, Manchester United, lost their tenth league game of the season on Saturday, dropping to sixth place, eight points behind leaders Liverpool and 16 points back.

Now that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has ultimate sports control over the squad, Erik ten Hag’s job may be called into question between now and the start of the next season. Ferdinand believes Arteta will quit Arsenal if United makes a genuine offer.

Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel that “100% of the time, Arteta would leave Arsenal to join Manchester United.”

Nobody is claiming it, but if Man United suddenly announced, “Do you know what, Erik ten Hag, thank you,” or that Erik ten Hag had been kidnapped by Bayern Munich and went there, and then Man United announced that Arteta was number one on the list and that Arteta would be entering and telling the boys, “Listen guys, it’s been emotional, but I’ve got to move, I’ve got to go.”
