The Bruins faced the Seattle Kraken at the Climate Pledge Arena on Monday, February 26th. Seattle won 4-3 in a shootout over the Bruins, their third consecutive loss. The Bruins have lost 3-2 in overtime and 4-3 in a shootout in their last three games, following two wins after a four-game losing streak. David Pastrnak scored two goals and assisted once, bringing his NHL career total to 700 points.

David Pastrnak scored at 14:07 in the first period, giving him his 700th NHL point. He scored a breakaway goal by taking a stretch pass from Kevin Shattenkirk at the blue line and chipping it over Philipp Grubauer’s glove. Pastrnak scored the only goal in the first period.

Jordan Eberle scored his 14th goal of the season on a power play to tie the game at one. Linus Ullmark attempted a clearing effort that hit Eberle in the leg and dropped at the top of the crease for a tap-in. At 2:52 in the middle stanza, David Pastrnak scored his second goal of the night off Pavel Zacha’s pass from beyond the net to put Boston ahead 2-1.

Vince Dunn knotted it 2-2 with his 11th goal of the season, extending his scoring streak to three games. Dunn scored with a snap shot off an Andre Burakovsky feed following a face-off at the top of the left circle. Morgan Geekie appeared to score for Boston, but the play was successfully challenged for goalkeeper interference. Oliver Bjorkstrand gave Seattle a 3-2 lead when he blocked Will Borgen’s one-timer from the point. Charlie Coyle scored on the power play, tying the game at three. Coyle diverted David Pastrnak’s shot from the right circle.

After overtime, the Bruins and Kraken faced off in a shootout to determine the winner. Kailer Yamamoto scored the only goal in the shootout. Philipp Grubauer stopped all three attempts by the Bruins.

Jim Montgomery discusses what they wanted to avoid and whether it is a lack of focus. “We did not accomplish either. We discussed it in between the second about being proactive offensively. We aim to have killer instincts and expand leads. No, I believe that when you’re in that scenario and things don’t go well, you tend to wait for things to happen rather than making them happen. I believe we are waiting for things to happen. We don’t have the proper mindset to begin thirds with the lead.”

Notes:

– Philipp Grubauer stopped 29 shots for Seattle before stopping three in the shootout.

– Linus Ullmark recorded 24 saves for Boston.

– David Pastrnak scored the game-winner, bringing his total to 700 points. He played the fourth-fewest games in Boston Bruins history to reach 700 (338-362-700). Pastrnak trails Phil Esposito (447 GP), Bobby Orr (518 GP), and Rick Middleton (639 GP).
