Women’s Recap: Hooray for Frankel! Boston wins 2-0 against Minnesota.

Any way they can obtain a regulation, Boston will take it. They will particularly relish a game in which their goalie wins her first shutout of the season while standing on her head. Nicole Hensley blocked much of the offensive, but Susanna Tapani managed to position Theresa Schafzahl. To end the game, Gigi Marvin added an empty netter.

Notes on the Game

  • With a game remaining against first and second place, Boston’s victory in regulation lifted them to 18 points and fourth in the rankings.
  • The defense struggled in this game, giving up 41 shots on goal, but they were still able to stop enough easy scoring opportunities and let Frankel do what she needed to do to keep the shutout intact.
  • Against her former side, Tapani was the main assister on the game-winning goal. She is now making it very evident why Boston want her resignation.
  • Frankel has now made four straight starts in goal. Given how great she has been playing lately, you would figure Kessel would ride her until she starts to falter attempting Soderstrom once more.
  • Other than Tapani, it was a homecoming for two other important producers: Frankel, who went to the prestigious Shattucks-St. Mary’s High School in the state, and Gigi Marvin, a local icon, who iced the game. Boston is on the road next.
