Manchester United are repeating the same old pattern after a late 2-1 defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Many thought Marco Silva’s team, which opened the scoring through Calvin Bassey, then conceded an 89th-minute equaliser before winning in stoppage time, earned the three points.

However, Harry Maguire and Erik ten Hag’s post-game comments suggest otherwise.

The Manchester United duo believed that “only one team was going to go on and win it,” while the manager praised his club’s “big character,” according to Optus Sport.

These remarks and ideas Alan Shearer promptly shut down Manchester United’s claims that they performed well or deserved anything from the encounter, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions.

The Newcastle United icon stated unequivocally, ‘I couldn’t disagree more,’ and detailed how Fulham ‘earned’ the victory and ‘played much better’ in the 90 minutes.

This has been the narrative of Manchester United’s season, with their defence unable to cope with sustained attacks while the team as a whole fails to manage games.

Harry Maguire and Erik Ten Hag’s comments
“I couldn’t disagree more with Harry Maguire and Erik ten Hag there,” Shearer went on to say.

“I thought Fulham deserved to win the game. They missed so many opportunities. Then, I thought Fulham deserved to win in the final few minutes. I think they were the better team. Played much better and created more opportunities. And deserved all three points.”
Manchester United’s top-four setback
Many people thought Manchester United’s recent win over Aston Villa was fortunate given that they were outplayed during the game.

But three points were three points, and it opened the door to the team’s top-four spot, which has now been firmly shut in their face.

While Manchester United lost to Fulham, Aston Villa won by three points against Nottingham Forest in the Midlands.

They are now eight points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United, leaving the battle for fourth place between Tottenham and Aston Villa.
