Lando Norris joked about ‘stealing Red Bull’s car’ after McLaren horror show

Following a disappointing opening race of the 2023 Formula One season with McLaren, Lando Norris joked about breaking into the Red Bull garage and “stealing their car.” Upon reaching the P17 mark at the Bahrain Grand Prix, the 24-year-old was seen by Netflix cameras expressing his annoyance following the race.

The third episode of the most recent season of Drive to Survive showed how awful McLaren’s start to the 2023 campaign was. Due to a gearbox failure, the Woking-based team was forced to retire rookie Oscar Piastri’s vehicle, and Norris finished the event in a wretched 17th place.

Max Verstappen of Red Bull, on the other hand, turned pole position into victory and led teammate Sergio Perez to the line to complete a one-two finish. This gave Red Bull the perfect start to the season and set the stage for a record-breaking 21 Grand Prix victories in 22 races.

After the season opener in Bahrain, Norris joked with a member of his McLaren entourage, saying, “I might just walk into Red Bull and steal their car,” and then, “Just steal their front wing.” His colleague asked, “They won’t care will they?” in response to this. Then, Norris reiterated his speculative strategy, saying, “Just go pick it up, walk straight out.”
Luckily for Norris, McLaren was able to get closer to the eventual world winners during the 2023 season. Four months later, in his home race at Silverstone, the British driver managed to take second place despite having the slowest car on the starting grid when he arrived in Bahrain.
Verstappen had wrapped up an impressive World Championship when the checkered flag fell in Abu Dhabi. Norris, on the other hand, finished the year just one point behind fourth-placed Fernand Alonso, while McLaren surged to fourth in the Constructors’ Championship standings after an impressive second half of the year.
